Rollinsford, New Hampshire

Rollinsford, New Hampshire is a small town located on the southeastern side directly on the Maine-NH border.  With square mileage totaling less than eight, Rollinsford is one of the smallest towns in the Granite State.  The 2700 residents who make Rollinsford their home are proud of their little town and wouldn’t have it any other way.

Rollinsford was originally a part of Dover, but became a part of Somersworth when that town broke away from Dover itself in 1729.  Rollinsford remained a parish of Somersworth until it finally became its own new town, incorporating in 1849.  The town was so-named for Edward and Ellen Rollins.  Edward Rollins went on to become the Speaker of the New Hampshire House, a Congressman and Senator from the state as well as the founder of the EH Rollins & Sons banking firm in Boston, Massachusetts.  His son, Frank was New Hampshire’s Governor from 1899 to 1901 and was also the mind behind Old Home Week.

Rollinsford has very little business in town – most businesses are located in neighboring Somersworth – just the way Rollinsford resident want it to be.  There’s not much interest in allowing additional, traffic-generating businesses into town, as the people who live here want to keep their little town peaceful and quiet and attractive to prospective buyers as a great place to raise a family.  Rollinsford has a municipal park as well as beach access for residents’ enjoyment.  There are streams for fishing, forests for walking, biking and, during the proper seasons, hunting.  Rollinsford has a bowling alley for those interested in sharpening their bowling skills, and even occasional “singles-dances” for those seeking adult companionship.  For their shopping, residents travel the short distances to either Somersworth or Dover, both of which have more than enough shops, stores and restaurants for anyone’s needs.

Rollinsford is a part of School Administrative Unit # 56 and maintains its own elementary school for resident students in kindergarten through the sixth grade.  Students in grades seven through twelve are tuitioned at Somersworth’s Middle and High Schools.  There are no current plans to expand the Rollinsford school system to include a local middle or high school.

Rollinsford is a great place to start a family or retire in the peace and quiet of the New Hampshire woods.  A great location and friendly neighbors make this town a prime choice in which to live.  If you’d like to know more about Rollinsford or any of the other wonderful communities in our great state, you should call Jim Miller Bean Group at (603) 801-3987.  We’re here to help guide you through the sometimes complicated process of purchasing a home.  We know this process intimately and we’re eager to show you the way.  Call us today and we’ll get things moving.
