Plaistow, New Hampshire

A southern NH town that appears larger than it really is, Plaistow is home to about 8000 people.  Bordering the Massachusetts city of Haverhill, Plaistow has many, many retail options to choose from including Wal-Mart, Staples, Shaws, Market Basket and Home Depot.  Countless smaller retailers line Route 125 in small shopping plazas that boast just about anything you can imagine from antiques to high-tech.  Plaistow is a small town with big city ideas and the planning and wherewithal to follow them through.

Plaistow was officially established in 1746 once the boundary dispute between New Hampshire and Massachusetts was settled.  Thirty years later, the western end of the town broke off to form its own community, later to be named Atkinson.  Plaistow, NH is currently the only town outside of England to have the name “Plaistow”.

Residents of this fine community enjoy the dichotomy of the commercial aspects of the “retail strip” on Route 125 paired against the quiet, New England-style hometown feel of Plaistow’s Main Street.  Historic homes and buildings set back from the oak-lined roads and waves from friendly neighbors are what bring a true sense of belonging to those fortunate enough to live here.  Yet the convenience of having most any material goods within two miles of your front door is a quality that most small towns simply cannot provide.  In Plaistow, you have the best of both worlds and the worst of none.  New Hampshire’s attractions, from its mountains to its seacoast are all very close and traveling is a snap with Routes 125, 121 and 495 all within shouting distance.

Plaistow is a part of SAU#55 and student of all ages attend the Timberlane Regional School District, along with student from the neighboring towns of Atkinson, Danville and Sandown.  Plaistow students in grades one through five attend the Pollard Elementary School, grades six through eight attend the Timberlane Regional Middle School and grades nine through twelve attend the Timberlane High School, all located here in Plaistow, New Hampshire.

Plaistow – a town with its feet firmly planted in both small-town New England and Big City Convenience at the same time.  Everything you want and nothing you don’t, Plaistow is just one of the many southern NH towns that only now people are starting to discover.  If you have an interest in buying a home in southern NH, your first move should be to call Jim Miller Bean Group at (603) 801-3987.  At Jim Miller, we’re happy to answer any question you have about our wonderful state and the towns within.  Call us now to get things moving – the future will be here sooner than you think.  Call today.
