Bradford, New Hampshire

With less than 1600 residents living in town, Bradford, New Hampshire is one of the smallest incorporated towns in the Granite State.  “Out of the way” doesn’t begin to describe this tiny town’s location in southwest-central New Hampshire, a state already known for its small, tucked-in-the-woods hamlets.  Bradford is a town out of history with its 150 year-old covered bridge, centuries-old homes and sleepy mainstreet appearance.

The area to become Bradford was granted in 1771.  Because many of the settlers originated from Bradford, Massachusetts, the town was first dubbed “New Bradford” then redubbed “Bradfordton”, a name that certainly doesn’t roll off the tongue.  In 1787, the year before the constitution was officially ratified, the town was incorporated and renamed “Bradford”.  Farming was the most common means of support, but over time several mills sprung up in the area producing lumber, grains and even apple cider.  The advent of the railroad in the mid to late 1800’s helped farmers and mill owners to ship their goods throughout the New England area.  The railroad eventually failed, as did most of the farms and mills.  Today, Bradford is a quiet rural town that sweeps you back to a simpler era every time you’re fortunate enough to visit.

When you live in New Hampshire, you appreciate the beauty of natural surroundings and the great outdoors.  Miles of rocky and sandy coastline, thousands of acres of undisturbed woodlands, towering mountains and rolling hillsides are all things New Hampshire.  Bradford is tucked in the rolling foothills of the Appalachian Mountain Range lending to spectacular views right from your own front door as well as plenty of outdoor activities to enjoy.  Hiking, fishing, boating, camping – Bradford is an outdoorsman’s paradise.  There are also plenty of things going on to keep the kids busy, from organized baseball and soccer games to the Boyscouts and Girlscouts of America.  Bradford is a great town in which to retire or purchase a second home, as real estate is plentiful in Bradford and the residents are warm and friendly.  Located within about ten minutes of I-89, Bradford is far enough off the beaten path to give you peace and serenity, but close enough to civilization that shopping for your everyday needs won’t require a long drive.

Bradford is a member of School Administrative Unit #65 and is a part of the Kearsarge Regional School District, along with Newbury, New London, Springfield, Sutton, Warner and Wilmot.  Bradford educates its own students in grades k-5 at the Kearsarge Regional Elementary School, Bradford campus.  Resident students in grades six through eight attend the Kearsarge Regional Middle School in New London while students in grades nine through twelve attend the Kearsarge Regional High School, in neighboring Sutton, NH.  Bradford has no current plan to build additional schools in town.

Where can you live when you want to get away from the everyday rat race?  Where can you live when you want to retire in peace and quiet?  Where can you live when you want to raise your children with old-fashioned New England family values?  The answer to all three questions is “Bradford, New Hampshire”.  For answers to any other questions about Bradford or the many other wonderful communities within our beautiful state, you need to call Jim Miller Coldwell Banker Residential Brokerage at (603) 801-3987.  We have the answers and we’re here just for you.  Call us today and see why more and more people are relocating to southern NH.
