Andover, New Hampshire

Andover, New Hampshire is a small town located in Merrimack County in the central part of the Granite State.  Being centrally located gives Andover’s 2300 residents quick and easy access to most places within the confines of the Granite State.  The rolling hills and small mountains surrounding this quiet little town create a visual masterpiece that must be seen to be truly appreciated.  Those who visit Andover seldom fail to return.

The area that was to become Andover was initially named New Breton for the soldiers who had successfully captured Cape Breton in 1745.  The surgeon for that regiment of soldiers was Dr. Anthony Edwards, a friend of John Phillips, the founder of the Phillips Andover Academy in Andover, Massachusetts.  The academy opened its doors in 1779 and that same year the town of New Breton incorporated itself as Andover, NH.  The town opened its own private school in 1822, only to close it six years later.  Another private school was opened in 1848 and eventually became Proctor Academy, which is still in operation today.

Tucked away in the thick woods of central New Hampshire, Andover is an easy town to miss.  Located on Route 4 between I-89 and I-93, Andover really isn’t that far from anywhere in the state – even Vermont is less than forty-five minutes west.  The White Mountain National Forest is just up Route 93 and the state capital of Concord is also a short drive away.  But people come to Andover to “get away from it all” and that’s exactly what you can do here.  Hike the wilderness, bike the winding, hilly back roads, swim in pristine lakes and streams – it’s all here in Andover.  For the children, there are youth sports and organizations to keep them busy, for adults there are many antique shops in the area as well as scenic drives for miles around.  Quiet and relaxing: that’s what the classic New England town of Andover is all about.

Andover is a part of SAU #46 and operates its own school for resident children of kindergarten age through the eighth grade at the Andover Elementary/Middle School.  Students of high school age are tuitioned at the nearby Merrimack Valley High School in Penacook.  Andover is not currently pursuing plans to construct their own high school.

Looking for excitement and nonstop action?  Don’t look for it in Andover – all you’ll find here is peace and quiet interrupted by an occasional birdsong or the sound of the breeze whistling through the pines.  Andover is the perfect community in which to raise a family or retire in serenity.   But before you make the decision to purchase a home, you should first call Jim Miller Bean Group at (603) 801-3987.  We know New Hampshire’s real estate market and we want to help you find the perfect home within our wonderful state.  Find out what all the NH hubbub is about – call us today.
